Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri confirmed in a press interview that he has not abandoned his principles, indicating that the only acceptable path is to establish a ceasefire and complete Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories,” stressing that he “still adheres to the rejection of any direct negotiation between Lebanon and Israel, and to the position he previously expressed regarding the framework agreement, which he previously described as ten times worse than the May 17 agreement.” Berri considered that "what is happening in the context of the experimental areas confirms our fears," reiterating that he does not express optimism in the possibility of reaching positive results. He pointed out that the positions he issued and were interpreted as including flexibility or positivity towards the negotiating path were exclusively related to establishing the ceasefire, securing the complete Israeli withdrawal, and the return of the people to their villages and homes. Berri concluded by stressing that anything other than that does not mean any change in his principled position that refuses to turn this stage into an entry point for direct political negotiation with Israel, or into a path that goes beyond the Lebanese constants that he repeatedly affirmed.
